Lake Manyara National Park

Located in two administrative regions; Manyara and Arusha, Lake Manyara is one of Tanzania’s most amazing national parks.

The Park is just a 1 hour and half hours’ drive from Arusha and it is also within a close proximity to the popular and alluring Ngorongoro crater.

That aside, Lake Manyara National Park is most popular for its unique tree climbing lions which cannot be found anywhere else with the exception of it and Uganda’s remarkable Queen Elizabeth National Park. Lake Manyara, a soda ash lake along with its flamingos is among the other most outstanding attractions in the Park.

To people who have not yet seen these unique types of lions, which climb trees, might have peculiar looks after they have heard of the term ‘tree climbing lions’ as it is really atypical for the lions to scale trees and perch atop branches.

However, you will be amazed by these unusual species of lions once you visit Lake Manyara National Park.

Though there are rumors that these species of lions can also be spotted in Tarangire National Park and in South Africa’s Kruger National Park too, you are really not guaranteed that you will see them in those Parks as you are guaranteed when you visit Lake Manyara and Queen Elizabeth National Parks.

Other attractions in the Park

Besides its unusual and amazing tree climbing lions, the Park has very many attractions that sparkle tourists who always go there for holidays or wildlife safaris.

Among the other wildlife species to spot in the Park include; cheetahs, leopards, usual lions, elephants, giraffes, hippos, zebras, dik-diks, impalas, Masai giraffes, and over 400 bird species, including the flamingos that throng banks of the alkaline Lake Manyara.

Activities in the Park

Tree-top walkway; the Park is really very unique as you will indulge in an uncommon activity of treetop walkway where you get a thrilling sky-high adventure straight through the forest.

It is a 370 meters’ air-walk, and begins right from the short board-walk as in the due course you rise in an altitude leading to a series of suspension bridges with secure netting on either side, thus giving you a bird’s-eye view of the forest.

The tree-top walkway activity is really unmissable as it offers priceless memories – you will feel as if you’re up in the sky having stunning views from there, nothing can ever be unforgettable than this – wow!!

The other fascinating activities in the Park include; day and night game drives, superb bird watching, canoeing, and cultural encounters (Masai People).

 The Park’s Accessibility

By your private car, the Park is just a one and half hours’ drive from Arusha though it can also be easily accessed from Babati, the capital of Manyara region. However, you can also access the Park by air as there is an airport – Lake Manyara Airport.
