Mountain Gorillas

A gorilla safari in Uganda is a must. I and husband did a private 4 day gorilla safari in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park on the 5th of September 2025. We booked our holiday with Wild Gorilla Tours and Jackie never disappointed us throughout the whole trip.  Starting off with the email communication before the trip, helping and answering questions has been great both by emails and via Whats app.

We booked a 4×4 Land cruiser at $75 for 3 days and Jackie reserved it for us. Mark was our drive and yes he made the entire trip amazing. His sense of humor kept us laughing and his calm confidence made even the longest drives feel easy and enjoyable.

As we embark on this adventure into the pristine and untamed jungles of Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to trek the mystical mountain gorillas and spend a-once-in-a-lifetime moment silently observing their intricate social lives and behaviors. Gorilla Trekking is offered in two places in Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga Gorilla National Parks. Uganda is mostly known for its mountain gorilla tourism and most people visiting Uganda include a gorilla trekking experience in their itinerary.

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, we were met by Emma our guide and drive, ready to take us through our gorilla trip. With a short briefing about our tour, off we went to our reserved accommodation at Green Valley Lodge in Entebbe for relaxation and dinner, as we prepared to travel to the western part of Uganda.

After breakfast, our guide picked from the lodge to set off to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. On our way, we made a stop at the Uganda Equator for the experiment as well as a photographic opportunity. After the experience, we continued to Mbarara city where we had our en-route lunch. We then dropped down into a valley to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home of the mountain gorillas. Dinner and Overnight stay was at Rushaga Gorilla Lodge.

On day 2, we woke up very early in the morning for a hearty breakfast to give us the energy needed for gorilla tracking. Ready with our hiking boots, rain gears, a hut, skin repellent, sunscreen, long-sleeved trouser and shirt, a camera, we set off to UWA headquarters for registration and a short briefing about the do’s and don’ts of the forest.

Within 3 hours of our hiking up steep slopes, we managed to find the gorillas and all the fatigue went away as we were excited to spend an hour with our cousins. The range said we should keep a distance of 7 meters away from the gorillas because they can easily catch a cold quickly. Ready with our cameras, we were allowed to spend only one hour with the mountain gorillas watching them breast feed, jump from tree to tree, playing, eating, among others. It was such a beautiful moment spending time with a huge silverback in forest. After the experience we drove to Lake Bunyonyi for our dinner and overnight.

The next day had the thrill of zip lining over Lake Bunyonyi, the second deepest lake in the world which was both breathtaking and exhilarating. Taking a boat ride out to a bungalow felt surreal and peaceful, like stepping into a postcard. On top of that, getting to try so many different African cuisines was delicious adventure in itself every meal added to the richness of the experience.

Every accommodation Wild Gorilla Tours arranged offered something special and unique each stay felt like its own adventure rather than just a place to sleep. From peaceful lodges to unforgettable locations, we were constantly surprised by how thoughtfully everything was planned. Seeing the mountain gorillas up close was a once in a lifetime experience that left us in awe and deeply grateful.

Great thanks goes the Uganda Wildlife Authority for conserving the mountain gorillas. This trip was perfectly balanced with adventure, culture, comfort and care. Wild Gorilla Tours didn’t just plan a trip, they created memories we will cherish forever.
